In this study, nickel felts (Bekipor 2Ni30–0.50, Bekaert) were structured using an ultrashort pulse laser (Carbide CB-3, 40 W; Light Conversion) with a pulse duration of 193 fs, wavelength of 1030 nm, and repetition rate of 100 kHz. The laser was focused using a telecentric F-theta lens with a focal length of 70 mm. The experiments were conducted under three distinct atmospheres: air, argon, and water. The effects of scan speed and fluence were systematically investigated within each atmosphere using confocal laser scanning microscopy (LSM) (Keyence VK-X200 series), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (Zeiss Sigma 300 VP), and Raman spectroscopy (Renishaw inVia).

The dataset contains light microscopy (LM) images and SEM images of the structured nickel felts, Raman spectra of the surface, and a plot illustrating the change in surface area as a function of medium, scan speed and laser fluence.
