Welcome to ReSeeD - Research Data Management System - BETA Instance

The ReSeeD (Research Data Management System) takes care of your research data throughout the research process - it manages, archives and publishes your research data

Ruhr University Bochum has developed ReSeeD as a cental platform to support sustainable management of the research data in the interests of good scientific practice and the practice and the FAIR principles . The aim of the RDM System is to offer a technical platform for the permanent storage, structuring and - if desired - publication of research data. To this end, the ReSeeD will support the process of data structuring, make data easy to find, and support the sharing of data to promote re-use and thus provide a basis for sustainable research.

Beta

The ReSeeD beta service provides all ReSeeD features and support. Users can use ReSeeD in the beta service as this instance is transitioned to the full ReSeeD service while retaining all data and user accounts. During the beta service phase, we ask users to provide feedback on the system and its usability to further improve ReSeeD for RUB. Please use the ReSeeD contact form https://rdms.rd.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/contact to get in touch.

The RDM System instance is available at this URL: https://rdms.rd.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/

FAQ

This is a set of "frequently asked questions" (FAQ) about the RUB ReSeeD Service.

What is research data management (RDM)?

Please refer to the RUB RDM Knowledge Base

What is the ReSeeD?

The ReSeeD - Research Data Management System is the service which RUB has developed to support its staff (and their collaborators) to manage, archive or publish research data.

Who can use the ReSeeD?

ReSeeD is available to be used by all Ruhr-University Bochum staff and research students, using their standard RUB login ID. The ReSeeD service provider can create an account for external (non-RUB) collaborators if requested by a staff member of RUB.

Do I need to login to use ReSeeD?

Some of the works (datasets) in ReSeeD are publicly available, but others are not. In the latter case, the works (datasets) may be simply private to the owner, or they may be waiting to be reviewed before being published, or they may be archived. When a work (dataset) is not public then you may be able to view it if you have logged in to ReSeeD using your standard RUB loginID (if you are a RUB staff member) or your ORCID ID if you are an external collaborator. Is there a user-guide for ReSeeD? Yes, this is available here: https://rdms.rd.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/help

What is a work (dataset)?

In ReSeeD, the term work (dataset) is a used to mean a discrete research data output. A work (dataset) is represented by a single metadata record in ReSeeD, together with one or more data files. Data files may be in any format.

What is a collection?

A collection is simply a logical group - or collection - of works (datasets) in ReSeeD. Collections can be defined by users for their convenience. However, it is not necessary to create a collection in order to add a work (dataset) to ReSeeD.

Why do I see an "unauthorised access" message when I try to access a particular page in ReSeeD?

ReSeeD users are able to control access to the works (datasets) that they have added to the system (although some operations must be reviewed and agreed by a Publication Manager). When a user attempts to access a work (dataset) to which they have not been given access, an "unauthorised access" message is displayed. This might happen also for users who have not logged into ReSeeD, who attempt to access a work (dataset) which is not configured for public access.

Why do I sometimes see an error when uploading a new work (dataset)?

Sometimes an error can be displayed if you have done the following:

This can happen when the system is still processing the files that you uploaded when you initially created the work (dataset). Normally, you will be able to use the "back" button in your browser and "Save" again.

When uploading a large number of files, it is advisable to not edit immediately, as there is likely to be a series of "saves" happening in the background. This should not be an issue when uploading just a few files.
